Welcome to my engineering portfolio, showcasing a diverse range of projects that reflect my skills and experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on design, analysis, and manufacturing.

With a strong background in automotive engineering, mechanical design, and manufacturing processes, I have applied my knowledge to real-world challenges through various academic and personal projects.

I designed and built a 3-Axis CNC machine to help bring future projects to the next level by giving me the ability to machine Aluminum components in-house. My goal was to deepen my understanding of mechanical design, design for manufacturing & assembly (DFM, DFA) and to create a machine capable of machining accurate aluminum components.

Following the Engineering Design process, I began by researching CNC machine designs created by both companies and individuals to identify common design challenges and their solutions. Based on this research, I created several sketches of my CNC designs to visualize and anticipate any potential issues. Once I had a clear concept, I developed a detailed CAD model using SIEMENS NX.

When I was confident in the design, I employed rapid prototyping methods, such as 3D printing, to build the machine. I repeated the engineering process multiple times, each iteration allowing me to apply the lessons learned from previous designs to improve the next version.

I conducted the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on the tripod axle for the OTR Formula SAE (FSAE) racecar using Nastran to evaluate its structural integrity under race conditions. I created a detailed CAD assembly, assigned material properties, and generated the mesh to simulate stress concentrations accurately.

I ran simulations to assess stress distribution and potential failure points by applying realistic boundary conditions and dynamic loads. The analysis revealed critical stress areas, leading to design recommendations for improved performance and durability.

This project demonstrates my proficiency in FEA, CAD modelling, and engineering design optimization for high-performance automotive applications.

Gauge Design for Quality Inspection

In this project, I designed a gauge fixture for the quality inspection of parts, specifically to measure the length of a notch with high precision using a digital indicator.

I created the CAD model in KeyCreator, focusing on ensuring accuracy and ease of use in the inspection process. The fixture was designed to house the digital indicator and allow for quick precise measurement of the notch length.

Once the design was finalized, I rapid prototyped the fixture using my personal 3D printer, enabling quick iteration and testing. This project showcases my skills in precision tool design, CAD modeling, and rapid prototyping, contributing to improved quality control in manufacturing processes.

In this project, I performed a comprehensive analysis of the braking system for a Formula SAE (FSAE) racecar, focusing on optimizing brake performance and safety. I calculated both the optimum and actual braking curves, ensuring the vehicle's braking system was tuned for maximum efficiency.

To achieve this, I applied a proportioning valve to the system, which allowed precise adjustment of the braking force distribution between the front and rear brakes. By ensuring the actual braking curve remained below the optimum curve, I guaranteed that the front brakes would lock up before the rear brakes during braking events, a critical safety measure to maintain vehicle stability.

This project highlights my expertise in brake system analysis, optimization, and safety engineering, ensuring reliable and effective braking performance under race conditions.

In this project, I designed a 2-degree-of-freedom (DOF) robotic arm intended to introduce affordable automation solutions for small businesses, particularly for pick-and-pack applications.

I developed the design in Autodesk Inventor, focusing on simplicity and functionality to ensure the arm could perform basic tasks like picking up items and placing them in designated areas with precision. The robotic arm was then 3D printed, allowing for cost-effective prototyping and testing.

This project demonstrates my ability to design functional robotic systems and my commitment to making automation accessible to small businesses, enhancing their efficiency and productivity.

Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM): Machining/Manufacturing

I participated in the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program focused on manufacturing, where I spent three academic years developing practical machining skills. Throughout the program, I gained hands-on experience operating manual milling and lathe machines, surface grinders, and 3-axis CNC milling machines.

I was also involved in creating CAD models and generating CAM code for the CNC machines, which allowed me to bring designs from concept to physical parts.

This program equipped me with valuable industry certifications and technical expertise, culminating in earning the SHSM seal on my Ontario Secondary School Diploma, signifying my specialized training in manufacturing.
